The National Academy of Public Administration has released a panel report that provides recommendations to the five federal environmental and natural resources agencies on practical next steps for creating a national system of environmental indicators. Over the past year, a National Academy panel worked closely with a federal interagency team to explore institutional options to select and regularly produce environmental indicators that are reliable, relevant, and trusted. The panel recommends that federal agencies forego organizational changes at this juncture and instead use a pilot to engage the states and other key players, broaden support, and build momentum for a national system of environmental indicators through the transition to the next Administration. |
