Abstract

This report concerns the organochlorine solvent carbon tetrachloride, which is used primarily in the manufacture of fluorocarbons. The toxic effects of the solvent in both animals and man are discussed and the probability of those effects occurring at the ambient atmospheric concentrations to which the general population is exposed is assessed. Methods for atmospheric sampling of carbon tetrachloride and available control technology for the prevention of release to the environment are also discussed.
