Abstract The alternative control techniques (ACT) document describes available control techniques for reducing NOx emission levels from rich-burn and lean-burn natural gas-fired, diesel, and dual-fuel stationary reciprocating internal combustion engines. A discussion of the formation of NOx and uncontrolled emission levels is included. Control techniques include parameter adjustments, prestratified charge, selective and nonselective catalytic reduction, and low-emission combustion. Achievable controlled NOx emission levels, costs and cost effectiveness, and environmental impacts are presented, and the applicability of these control techniques to new equipment and retrofit applications is discussed.
