| Abstract |
The report describes the design, construction, operation and two-year evaluation of a biological process used for the treatment of potential combined sewer overflow. A 75,700 cu m/day (20 mgd) modified contact stabilization process was constructed on the grounds of an existing 87,055 cu m/day (23 mgd) conventional activated sludge plant at a total cost of 1.1 million dollars. The demonstration system consisted of pumping facilities, the conversion of an unused flocculation basin into a grit basin, construction of a contact tank and stabilization tank, installation of a final clarifier and all associated yard piping and automatic control equipment. The demonstration system's raw sewage pump and clarifier were used by the dry weather plant when the demonstration system was not in use. |
