| Abstract |
This research is to investigate the flame mode incinerability of hazardous waste compounds. It was also designed to provide a comparison between flame and non-flame destruction of compounds and act as a guideline for future work on the development of an acceptable incinerability ranking methodology. Two flame reactors were used in order to simulate a wide variety of failure conditions for liquid injection incinerators. The first reactor was called a microspray and consisted of droplets injected into a hydrocarbon flat-flame. The second reactor was a turbulent flame reactor which allowed the investigation of failure conditions in spray flames such as mixing, atomization and quench phenomenon. The compounds investigated included: chloroform, 1,2-dichloroethane, benzene, chlorobenzene, and acrylonitrile. |
