Abstract
The first comprehensive-type legislation in the pollution control field was the Water Pollution Control Act of 1948. The particular concern of the Federal government in the growing national pollution problem resulted in the new Federal Water Pollution Control Act of 1956. Its provisions are presented and discussed.
