Abstract | The paper gives a brief description of Lake Bosten, its importance to Xinjiang Province of the PRC, objectives of an on-going water quality study, and some preliminary results. The study is intended to determine the feasibility of integrating modeling studies into resource management in this part of China. This site seems well suited for such an evaluation. Some data have been collected since the 1950s and extensive data collection and study has been going on since 1987. The specific goals of the current study are to: (1) evaluate important factors in the water and salt balances in the lake, (2) calibrate and validate hydrodynamic and water quality models for the lake, and (3) simulate management scenarios for the lake. |
