Abstract
The 4-acre SCRDI Bluff Road site is an inactive chemical waste manuFacturing, storage, recycling, and disposal facility in Richland County, South Carolina. Surrounding land use is rural residential and industrial, and part of the site has been classified as a wetlands area. All operations at the site ceased in 1982 after State investigations identified onsite soil and ground water contamination. From 1982 to 1983, the State addressed the site contamination and required the removal of over 7,500 drums containing various chemicals, visibly contaminated soil, and above-ground structures. The Record of Decision (ROD) addresses remediation of both the contaminant source and ground water. The primary contaminants of concern are VOCs including benzene, toluene, PCE, TCE, and xylenes, other organics including PCBs, phenols, and pesticides; and metals.
