Contents Notes
Toxicity testing of mysid shrip, Mysidopsis bahia, in natural saltwater is becoming increasingly common because they are small and easy to handle and culture, they are highly sensitive to toxicants, their life cycle is short (14-16 days/generation), and their development is direct. This report describes procedures for culturing them and conducting flowthrough toxicity tests with them using artificial saltwater. It also describes a new saltwater delivery system, redesigned test cambers, and a new combination of foods. Continued research using M.bahia will probably demonstrate the increasing usefulness of this crustacean in assessing toxicant impacts on estuarine or marine communities.
