Abstract
The report presents a series of separate and linked experiments using cultured and natural communities, combining the control and flexibility of laboratory experimentation with the realism of microcosm studies. Phytoplankton exhibited large changes in growth rate upon exposure to arsenic. Zooplankton were quite resistant to arsenate; benthic organisms also exhibited general tolerance to arsenic.
