Abstract
The complete mix activated sludge (CMAS) process in modular mode produces an effluent quality equal to that produced by an equivalent CMAS single-reactor system as evaluated during this research. Furthermore, the modular system maintained a lower sludge production but a greater oxygen demand than the control or single-reactor system. The control and study systems demonstrated ability of the CMAS process to produce good treatment efficiency at various organic loadings with a hydraulic retention time of four (4) hours. The practical value of the study is an indication that the capacity of the CMAS process can be modified, without loss of performance efficiency, through the use of a modular system. (Author)
