Abstract | The significance of floc strength in the filtration process was reviewed, and two methods for its measurement were developed. Of the two, the measurement of the median size of the floc following fragmentation under high shear stress was considered to represent floc strength reasonably well. pH and coagulant dosage were found to affect the strength of floc as measured by this method.
