Abstract
During 1975 Pierce County, Washington and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency prepared separate environmental impact statements for the Chambers Creek sewerage system. Since that time, the project as proposed in those documents proceeded in various stages of development. The design and construction of the main sewer interceptor into the treatment facility was to coincide with the design and construction schedule for the treatment plant. However, preliminary soil investigations revealed that the proposed interceptor route was unsuitable due to unstable soils conditions. Because of those findings, a tunneling alternative was suggested. This supplemental environmental impact statement examines the impacts associated with the new tunnel alternative.
