Abstract
This report describes a mathematical model which relates collection efficiency to electrostatic precipitator (ESP) size and operating parameters. It proposes methods for empirically representing collection efficiency losses caused by non-uniform gas velocity distributions, gas bypassing the electrified regions, and particle reentrainment due to rapping of the collection electrodes. It compares the reduced efficiencies with those obtained from measurements on ESPs treating flue gas from coal-fired generating stations. A procedure for estimating the program output by hand calculation is given, and a complete listing of the FORTRAN computer program is contained in an Appendix. Portions of this document are not fully legible.
