A cross-sectional respiratory survey of workers exposed to polyacrylate dust was conducted to assess possible respiratory effects. There was no evidence of an excess risk of lung cancer or chest x-ray abnormalities in exposed workers. There were, however, exposure related decrements in lung function. This survey was intended to be a preliminary assessment and there are several limitations in the medical and exposure data analyzed. These findings do appear to be consistent with some of the observations in animal studies and indicate that efforts to minimize respiratory exposure to these materials should continue.
