Abstract
This report presents the findings of a study of the cement manufacturing industry by Southern Research Institute for the Environmental Protection Agency for the purpose of developing effluent limitation guidelines -- setting forth, the degree of effluent reduction attainable through the application of the best practicable control technology currently available and the degree of effluent reduction attainable through the application of the best available technology economically achievable which must be achieved by existing plants by July 1, 1977 and July 1, 1983 respectively; and standards of performance; and pretreatment standards for the industry -- setting forth the degree of effluent reduction achievable through the application of the best available demonstrated control technology, processes, operating methods, or other alternatives -- to implement Sections 304, 306, and 307 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act, as amended. Supporting data and rationale for the development of the proposed guidelines and standards are contained in this report. Presented are studies on processes, wastes, control technology, and costs.
