Abstract
According to Part 58.50 of 40 CFR, all Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) with a population of 350,000 or greater are required to report daily air quality using the Air Quality Index (AQI) to the general public. AQI is calculated from concentrations of five criteria pollutants: ozone (O3), particulate matter (PM), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). According to Part 58 of 40 CFR, Appendix G, particulate matter measurements from non-Federal Reference Method (FRM) monitors may be used for the purpose of reporting the AQI if a linear relationship between these measurements and reference or equivalent method measurements can be established by statistical linear regression. This report provides guidance to MSA's for establishing a relationship between FRM and continuous PM2.5 measurements.
