National NPDES Permit Writers Conference

July 22-26, 2013, Shepherdstown, West Virginia

Overview

EPA is hosting a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit Writers Conference, which will provide a unique opportunity for advanced technical training on the NPDES program to State and EPA Regional permit writers. This forum also allows permit writers to exchange information, knowledge, and best practices.

Intended Audience

This 5-day conference is aimed at experienced NPDES permit writers.

Dates and Location

The conference will begin at 8 am on July 22, 2013, and run through midday on July 26, 2013 in Shepherdstown, West Virginia at the US Fish & Wildlife Service National Conservation Training Center (NCTC). For more information on the NCTC, please visit their website at http://nctc.fws.gov/.

Costs and Logistics

There is no registration fee to attend this conference.

Attendees will be responsible for their lodging, meals, and transportation costs. Attendees should plan to stay onsite at the NCTC. Once you have registered for the conference and received confirmation of your registration, you may contact the NCTC to make your housing reservation. Information on the NCTC lodging, how to book a room, and rooming costs can be found on their website at: http://nctc.fws.gov/meet/reserve.htm. Please note that room costs include a full meal plan.

For those who will be flying, Dulles International Airport is the closest airport to the facility (about an hour and a half drive). NCTC offers a shuttle to the training center on Sunday afternoons and Friday afternoons. Shuttle cost and scheduling information can be found here: http://nctc.fws.gov/meet/shuttle.html. You can also rent a car and drive to the facility.

Additional Conference Information

This conference will serve as a forum for senior permit writers throughout the nation to discuss many of the complicated issues they face regularly. It is also an opportunity to facilitate national consistency in the NPDES permitting program.

EPA and State permit writers will exchange information over a four and a half day period on permitting topics ranging from technical water quality and municipal wet weather issues to legal and policy issues affecting permitting.
