Technical StudiesResearch is an important component to stormwater management. Research can update us on the most recent technologies, improved strategies, cost-effective data, or emerging issues that need to be addressed. Many of these reports listed are specific to stormwater and transportation. This page provides links to non-EPA web sites that provide additional information. You will leave the EPA.gov domain and enter another page with more information. EPA cannot attest to the accuracy of information on that non-EPA page. Providing links to a non-EPA Web site is not an endorsement of the other site or the information it contains BY EPA or any of its employees. Also, be aware that the privacy protection provided on the EPA.gov domain (see Privacy and Security Notice) may not be available at the external link. Post ConstructionRegional PlanningGreen Highways Initiative (GHI) for Sustainable Watershed Management - GHI project assesses stormwater impacts of highway activities and aims to develop protocols for the management of watershed based resource protection. Site-specificContext Sensitive Solutions in Designing Major Urban Thoroughfares for Walkable Communities (PDF) (221 pp, 9.03MB) - Report by the Institute for Transportation Engineers (ITE) can be used as a guidance for roadway improvement projects. MonitoringCaltrans Monitoring Studies - Caltrans has developed a Number of Monitoring, research and applied studies. Research NeedsIdentification of Research Needs Related to Highway Runoff Management - Report by National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) summarizes stormwater management and research and identifies further needs. Selecting Best Management PracticesCaltrans BMP Retrofit Pilot Program - Report on performance evaluation and cost of structural BMPs for treating stormwater runoff from Caltrans facilities. Evaluation of BMPs for Highway Runoff Control - Guidance by National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) for selecting BMPs for highway runoff control. Stormwater Quality Benefits of a Porous Asphalt Overlay (PDF) (15 pp, 308K) - Study that documents the impacts of porous asphalt overlay to the quality of highway stormwater runoff. Tennessee State DOT Post-Construction Stormwater BMP Research Report (PDF) (285 pp, 19.79MB) - Includes research of other DOT post construction stormwater activities, how other DOTs are handling post-construction stormwater from highway and facility sites, and a literature review of post-construction BMPs.
