Storm Water Urbanized Area Maps

Under Phase II of the national Storm Water Regulations, all municipal separate storm sewer systems in "urbanized areas" (as defined by the U.S. Census) will need to develop and implement controls to prevent polluted storm water from entering rivers, lakes and, coastal waters. Approximately 5000 communities across the nation must meet these requirements by March 2003. In order to assist municipalities (and other governmental entities) in determining the boundaries of the "urbanized area" - the geographic area where pollution prevention measures will need to be implemented - EPA has developed a set of digitized maps based on information from the 2000 Census. There are two maps for each urbanized area: the first is a general overview, the second provides street-level detail to clearly outline the boundaries. For more information visit our website at
