Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO) Rule Notice of Data Availability

On January 12, 2001, EPA published a proposed revision to two regulations that address manure, wastewater, and other process waters generated by concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). Due to subsequent comments and information received, EPA is considering changing aspects of the original proposal and is presenting information on the following:

  • Establishing alternative regulatory thresholds for chicken operations using dry litter management practices
  • The potential creation of alternative performance standards to encourage CAFOs to implement new technologies
  • Financial data and changes to refine its economic analysis models

EPA is making these data and potential changes available for public review and comment through August 22, 2002. and click on "CAFO Proposed Rule."
