EPA Webcast for Tribes on the Pesticide General Permit on April 18, 2012

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is hosting a webcast on April 18, 2012 for Tribal audiences to discuss the implications of a recent court decision on Clean Water Act (CWA) permitting requirements for pesticide discharges to waters of the United States. The EPA is the agency responsible for issuing these permits for discharges on all Indian Country lands in the U.S. except for those lands located within the State of Maine.

Details: On October 31, 2011, EPA issued a final CWA National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Pesticide General Permit (PGP) for point source discharges from the application of pesticides to waters of the United States. This action was in response to a 2009 decision by the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals that found point source discharges of biological pesticides, and chemical pesticides that leave a residue, into waters of the U.S. require an NPDES permit under the Clean Water Act. The court's decision took effect (i.e., NPDES permits are required for such discharges) as of October 31, 2011.

Intended Audience: This webcast is open to the public but is intended for audiences who manage pests on Indian Country lands. Tribes are urged to send this invite to those who are responsible for applying pesticides that result in discharges to waters of the United States on Indian Country lands or that are otherwise involved in the decision-making process of such.

Date and Time: Wednesday, April 18, 2012, 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm Eastern.

EPA will record and post an archived version of this presentation on the NPDES Training & Meetings website ( shortly after the webcast.
