Compliance with the Endangered Species Act in Storm Water Permits

EPA has developed a searchable list of endangered species to assist entities that must comply with requirements of the storm water program. The storm water regulations require compliance with the Endangered Species Act when EPA is the permtting authority. For those seeking coverage under EPA's Construction General Permit or the Multi-Sector General Permit, applicants must assess the potential effects of their storm water discharges and storm water discharge-related activities on listed species and their critical habitat. The NPDES website contains a searchable list of endangered species by state and county. This list is intended as a helpful starting point in making these determinations. For more information go to www.epa.gov/npdes/stormwater and click on "endangered species" in the list of topics.
