April is Stormwater Month!

April is Stormwater Month!

Spring is a great time to focus on stormwater pollution (April showers...). This year it is even more appropriate as Phase II of the NPDES stormwater regulations comes into effect. These regulations place new requirements on approximately 5,000 smaller cities and towns and as many as 200,000 construction sites (1 to 5 acres) nationwide.

In order to help states and communities implement these new requirements, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released a CD-based outreach kit as part of the ongoing celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act. The materials will help communities reach out to a wide variety of audiences, including homeowners, construction site operators, and businesses. Local officials can use the CD to customize these materials with their agency's name, address, and phone number so citizens will know where to turn for more information.

The complete Stormwater Month collection of materials is available at www.epa.gov/npdes/stormwatermonth. You can also order the CD, which includes all the files you'll need to customize these publications, as well as a complete reference library for the NPDES stormwater program, including regulations, guidance documents, and more. Finally, hard copies of individual products may be requested in limited quantities. Contact Nikos Singelis at npdesbox-request@epa.gov.
