Description:

Objective:

Design an integrated, efficient biological system that can be used to convert sugar beets into biofuel and bioenergy.

Approach:

  1. Design industrial scale system that will produce ethanol and biogas from ground sugar beet.
  2. Design, build, and test lab scale system based on industrial design.
  3. Determine optimal conditions for ethanol and biogas production.
  4. Develop engineering design and operating manual for the integrated ethanol and biogas production system.

Expected Results:

A design spreadsheet model for sizing and analyzing the integrated ethanol and biogas production system, a prototype of the ethanol and biogas production system in the laboratory that has been tested and documented with performance data, and a design and operating manual for the system.
