The State of North Dakota is firmly committed to building a high quality environmentally related research infrastructure that is well-integrated and relevant to the needs of the state and the region.Approach:
The Strategic Improvement Plan (SIP) section targets four goals:
Goal 1: Enhance mentoring for junior faculty through installing an outstanding investigator (with an established track record) at each of the two major research universities in North Dakota who can perform high quality research in environmentally related areas.
Goal 2: Increase the number of new research programs in environmental science and engineering through the use of a competitive seed grant program.
Goal 3: Recruit more undergraduates to pursue careers in environmentally related areas in science and engineering.
Goal 4: Form a cohesive network of individuals from across the state of North Dakota and the region that have interests in environmental science and engineering.Expected Results:
Goal 1: Install an outstanding investigator (with an established track record) at each of the two major research universities in North Dakota who can perform high quality research in environmentally related areas.
Goal 2: We anticipate seeding 3-5 new programs.
Goal 3: Initiate a new undergraduate human resources development (HRD) program (STEER, Students Engaged in Environmental Research) that targets excellent undergraduates who will pursue careers in environmentally related areas in science and engineering.
Goal 4: We will accomplish this goal by establishing forums that will firmly unite the university research community with business leaders, environmental health workers, and others.Publications and Presentations:
