Aluminate-Silicate-Based Antifouling Coatings

EPA Contract Number: 68D99041
Title: Aluminate-Silicate-Based Antifouling Coatings
Investigators: Walsh, M. Alex
Small Business: E Paint Company
EPA Contact: Manager, SBIR Program
Phase: I
Project Period: September 1, 1999 through March 1, 2000
Project Amount: $70,000
RFA: Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) - Phase I (1998)
Research Category: Water and Watersheds , SBIR - Water

Description:

A waterborne formulation is proposed that promises to significantly advance the state-of-the-art of nontoxic antifouling paints. The novel organic-inorganic hybrid composition contains no toxic ingredients or volatile organic compounds. The proposed technology involves only environmentally benign components, will be easy to apply, and will be low cost.

The innovative technology described will have wide application for the prevention of biofouling of all types. As such, there will be many large potential commercial applications after development through Phases I and II.
