Abstract

EPA is releasing the draft report, Toxicological Review of cis-1,2-Dichloroethylene and trans-1,2-Dichloroethylene, that was distributed to Federal agencies and White House Offices for comment during the Science Discussion step of the IRIS Assessment Development Process. Comments received from other Federal agencies and White House Offices are provided below with external peer review panel comments.

The draft Toxicological Review of cis-1,2-Dichloroethylene and trans-1,2-Dichloroethylene provides scientific support and rationale for the hazard and dose-response assessment pertaining to chronic exposure to cis- and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene. 1,2-Dichloroethylene is used as a solvent for waxes and resins, in rubber extraction, and as a coolant in refrigeration plants. The cis- and trans- isomers have slightly different physical, chemical, and biological properties. The trans-isomer is more widely used. 1,2-Dichloroethylene is frequently detected at federal and state hazardous waste sites across the country.

Impact/Purpose

The draft Toxicological Review of cis- and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene provides scientific support and rationale for the hazard and dose-response assessment pertaining to chronic exposure to cis- and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene.

Status

Now that the interagency review draft has been completed and finalized, this assessment has been loaded into the IRIS Web site and Database.
