Objective/Intended Use

To assess the health risks of Zinc. The development of integrated toxicity summaries, encompassing both cancer and noncancer assessments and incorporating new scientific information and methodology, is intended to provide Agency consensus positions on potential adverse human health effects from environmental pollutants. This assessment will be provided in the form of a Toxicological Review and an IRIS summary sheet.

Abstract

An IRIS summary for zinc was developed in the 1980's. New information and NAS/NRC recommendations published in 2001 will help in the reassessment of the toxicity of zinc based on the current state-of-science. Newer information on interaction of zinc with other toxic and essential metals is included in the Toxicological Review for zinc and will aid in making informed decisions for protection of human health.
