The U.S. EPA has conducted a second external peer review of the scientific basis supporting the health hazard and dose-response assessment for toluene that will appear on the Agency's online data base, the Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS). The draft Toxicological Review for Toluene and the draft IRIS Summary have undergone internal Agency review and previous external peer review (August 2002). As a result of the peer review, significant changes were made to the documents warranting further peer review. Peer review is meant to ensure that science is used credibly and appropriately in derivation of the dose-response assessments and toxicological characterization.
