Notice

[12/08] EPA released this draft report as supporting material for the Preliminary Regulatory Determination on Perchlorate (FR Notice) in October 2008. Comments from the independant external peer review are now available.

EPA released this document in draft form as supporting material for the Preliminary Regulatory Determination on Perchlorate (FR Notice) in October 2008. The document has since been revised, final report, in response to comments from independent external peer review. A copy of the PBPK model code is available. In addition, the final peer review report and a summary of external peer review comments and EPA responses are available.
Background
This report provides an analysis of perchlorate-mediated inhibition of the sodium-iodide symporter (NIS) in humans using published PBPK models, focusing on the degree of NIS inhibition as a function of lifestage. The models provide information that may be used to address differences in human responses to perchlorate across lifestages.

History/Chronology

Oct 2008EPA released an external review draft for public review and comment as a supporting document to the EPA Drinking Water Ruling.
Dec 2008EPA released the consolidated comments from the independent external peer review.
Aug 2009EPA released the summary of external peer review comments and disposition for the 2008 external review draft of the report with the draft report.
Aug 2009EPA publishes the final report.

Next Steps

Following the external peer review, EPA plans to release a revised final document.
