On September 19, 2010, Mid-West Container, a drums recycling facility located Columbia Missouri, and Steve Hopper, its owner were both sentenced to pay a $30,000 fine and placed on 36 months probation for violating the POTW standards of the CWA. Mid-West Container did not have a permit discharge to sewer system.

The defendants were charged with one count of violating the CWA {33 U.S.C. 1319(c)(1)(A) - negligent violation}. They pled guilty to the charge.
